All our ZIMIA grades undergo rigorous disintegration testing under conditions that simulate industrial composting.
During this process, naturally occurring microorganisms in compost are activated and nourished under optimal temperature and humidity levels, encouraging their growth and activity.

Over a period of up to three months, in accordance with the EN 13432 standard, the compost is aerated and carefully monitored to create the ideal environment for microbial digestion.
These same microorganisms that break down organic waste also consume our ZIMIA bioplastics—leaving no persistent microplastics behind. Our materials are fully digested, just like natural food for microbes.

That’s where the magic happens! Some bioplastics disintegrate in as little as 20 days, while others take a bit longer—but always within 90 days.
